The Furka, Grimsel, and Susten passes form one of Switzerland’s most spectacular alpine driving circuits. Furka Pass reaches about 2,429 meters and features a series of tight hairpins, dramatic views of the Rhône Glacier, and the famous Hotel Belvédère where Goldfinger was filmed. Nearby Grimsel Pass offers stark granite landscapes, reservoirs, and impressive dam structures, while Susten Pass stands out for its thoughtful engineering. Built between 1938 and 1945 specifically for automobiles, it was designed with gentler gradients, wider lanes, and larger-radius bends than the steep, narrow bridle path it replaced, making it one of Switzerland’s pioneering purpose-built alpine roads.
